I've been busy training my momma to walk at my side an' say "heel" while I bounce around, and give me tweats while she says "sit." When I got old enough, I wanna show off my people training skills so's other doggies can admire my work, an' maybe even get a people-training title after my name, like Commando Dog (CD), Commando Dog X-traordinaire (CDX), or even Unbelievable Dog (UD)!
I needs to know what I haves to teach her, an' for how long. She called the AKC dis week, an dey was weally wude an' told her dey couldn't tell her stuff like dat over the phone, an' to go find a web site or somebuddy else to ask.
I wants to know what else she needs to learn, an' how long I should do tings like sit or lie dere while she hides an' den brings me a treat. Can any doggies who play The Bedients Game tell me what to do? Do you show off your human at AKC shows, or is dere a better place do do dis?
Thanks.

Stetson, dis is Baxter here. One more fing you should teach your mom is to frow the ball or any uther toy you bwing her, and to do it wight after she wrestles it outta your mouf. She should do dis as long as you wike or until you get too tired. Dat wood be so cool to hab a title like Commando Dog. Let me know when you find out how to get dat cuz i might twy for one too.

Christine,
Could I recommend APDT rather than AKC? Here's their site. The fact that you got such a rude response at AKC says something to me about the organization itself. Our trainer works closely with APDT, or Association of Pet Dog Trainers. They allow all full breeds and mutts, and handicapped dogs, which AKC does not. Their much more relaxed and fun! Here's the link:

Baxter, dat sounds like fun, but I dunno if I wanna let her take dat ball from me. I gots three balls, an' they're all mine. Maybe I'll share an' let her play wif them.
Lucy, she gots dis idea dat I should eat healthy an' she's gonna raise a puppy dat won't beg at the table dis time. I dunno how long dat idea will last, probably not too long. I helps her in the kitchen, an' I get little bits of people food for my help.

OK, I'll move Stetson away from the keyboard....
Thanks for the link, Lauren. All I wanted to know is what exercises to do, and how long to do the long sits and downs. When I didn't find it on their web site, I called their phone number for obedience questions. The man who answered said he couldn't tell me anything like that over the phone. Then he gave me to his "supervisor" and I asked her the same thing, and she was rude and yelled at me for calling, and told me to go find a web site somewhere or ask somebody else. I was polite, but she just kept yelling at me. Sheesh! That's why Stetson started a thread to ask.:D

Hi Stetson,
have you taught your mom to "give?" When you see something you want, you just go stare at it and say "give."
it doesn't always work... sometimes you're looking at a piece of cheeze on the table, you say "give" and they give you a newspaper or something.
But it's really handy when your ball is stuck under the soffa and you can't get to it. Humans are a bit slow with this, so you gotta be patient, but usually it works well for me!
good luck,
Maya

In my training class, sit stays and down stays had to be done for a minimum of 2 minutes to graduate, but I'm not sure what the show ring standards are.
