I just had to come vent this morning. I overheard a lady here in the office asking about how to get her grown son's dog registered so they can breed it. I know this family, not personally, but from office talk. She has lived with her parents all 50 years of her life, just got her license back from a dui several years ago, and her son wants to breed his huskys? I can just feel this fire building up inside me. I don't want to judge them but I really don't see them having the resources to responsibly breed dogs. I don't know that I could ever breed dogs for fear that I would have to give them away and they wouldn't be well taken care of. Oh my, I just get hotter and hotter the more that I think about it. I better get back to work so I can try to forget about it.

I also had a question. What is the use of registering your dogs if they are fixed or are going to be fixed. I don't really understand what registering your dog really does. I didn't register Zeus but I was wondering if anyone elses boston was registered?

I may be wrong... but I think dogs have to be registered to be in certain things like certain agility competitaions and other competitions that I can't recall off the top of my head? Even if they are fixed. Not sure, but I thought I had read that. Maybe not?

Both of our BTs are registered and they are both fixed, and we never had any intention of breeding them.

I understand how you can get heated about that person wanting to breed their dog. I hear people talk about breeding do and I start to get heated. I am not the all knowing person about breeding, but I do know you have to be responsible about it- and I hate the most when people talk about how much a pup goes for and how big their litters usually are (co-worker is going to breed his Mastiff). Ugh.

I agree! People that breed just for the fun of it really have no business doing it. I would say that it takes alot of years of education and experience to really know what you are doing. Lucy is registered but only because my stepdad said she needed to be. She is fixed and we basically got her just to love! :18:

Otis is registered and Dixie will be too. I won't be breeding them either, it's just something that my boyfriend and I wanted to do.

Hummm, I wonder if I can still register Zeus? Does anyone know much about it? Cost or an internet site to go to or what information I'd need to register him? I remember the lady I got him from gave me some info but I'll have to look for it.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before but we got really lucky nothing is wrong with Zeus except the normal boston alergies. I got him from the news paper....I know, bad choice...but I was younger and not as educated in the bad side of dog breeding. The lady said he was the last one and said that her house was hard to find so she'd meet me at such and such gas station. I didn't even think about her being a puppy mill or anything. But the moment I saw him there was no way in the world I could say no. I really worry now that maybe his parents are in a puppy mill or his brothers and sisters too. I just thank God nothing is wrong with him and I will be much much more careful nextime.

Lilly I never registered untill I decided to do agility and obedience with her. As for Lola, I never asked for her papers, but now that I want to do agility with her as well I had to apply for papers for her through the AKC and UKC.
It's called "Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP)". You must show proof of spay or neuter, and this is just for classes like agility, obedience, and stuff like that.

Dana, did you receive papers with Zeus? You can find info on registering at:
www.akc.org If you have no papers, you can do what I did. Just go to registration, then click on Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP).

I think that registering your dogs has SOME benefits. I mean, if the dog is BRED well enough then it should be registered, and some people can't even think of registering because they don't know whether or not their dog was bred into that "category" or not. I have 2 PureBreeds, or Full Breds or whatever, a Boxer and a Shih Tzu, neither one of mine are registred, or can be :) But I think that certain breeds being out-lawed and all that is plain wrong and unfair to the dogs and thier RESPONSIBLE owners and breeders who try to improve the breeds. Owners and Breeders who THINK they know what they are doing is more a problem than the dogs will ever be. As far as the person wanting to breed and register her sons dog, I hear ya, I have known a few "breeders" in my day too that think they know what they are doing; I know what they're doing, Ruining the breed and messing with the dog's quality of life and happiness. Poeple like them only want the $$$ not the best for their dog or the breed. It sucks but it'll always happen...I also think if you CAN say something to someone to maybe inhibit them from doing so, do it! If you think you can stop them from doing it and you know it's wrong, go for it. :)

Oh, don't feel too bad about buying Zeus from someone you weren't sure of, I did that too. Tyson (Boxer) is from a guy we met from the paper ad. He was a nice enough fella, and his wife and kids were there, we met Ty's parents (awesome dogs, both of them) and since all we wanted to know was what his parents were like (thus you know what your dog will most likely end up being like) we got him. We also got our Shih Tzu from a Lady who has unregistered dogs, but I love her, and she comes recommended by the Canadian Shih Tzu Club, so I think we have 2 excellent dogs, but I also think that if we were ever to buy another dog we should pay the extra money and make sure they are from registered breeders and have the best bloodlines, just for their health and benefit of the breed. I have alot to say huh? *L* SORRY!!! :)
