Open Question: Can anyone tell me where I can information about anal gland problem?

I just had to take my dog to the vet for the 2nd time because her anal gland got infected and ruptured. She had to have surgery both times. The first time was a little over 2 years ago. The vet suggested I go have them cleaned every month. Do you think she really needs it done that often. Anyone else have dogs with this problem.
